General Return Policy
Standard Return Window
Most unopened items sold by Target in new condition can be returned within 90 days for a refund or exchange. The return window for items sold on Target.com begins once the order has been invoiced. Invoicing happens when any part of the order is shipped, delivered by a Shipt shopper, or made ready for pickup.
Target Brand Items – Extended Return Period
Target-owned brand items can be returned up to one year from the date of purchase with a receipt. This extended return policy applies to all of Target’s 32 owned and exclusive brands.
Registry Items
Most registry items can be returned within one year of the event date. Start returns in the More tab of your registry dashboard.
Return Requirements
Item Condition
- Items must be unopened, in new condition
- Items that are opened or damaged or do not have a receipt may be denied a refund or exchange
- Items must include original packaging and tags when applicable
Receipt Requirements
- Receipt, packing slip, or proof of purchase recommended
- Some items sold by Target have a modified return policy noted on the receipt, packing slip, Target policy board (refund exceptions), Target.com, or in the item description
Non-Returnable Items
Certain items cannot be returned, including:
- Gift cards
- Trading cards
- Digital downloads
- Open breast pumps
Target Plus⢠Partner Items
Most unopened items sold by Target Plus Partners in new condition can be returned within 90 days for a refund. All items sold by Partners must be returned to Target either in store or by mail. In-store returns without an eligible receipt will be denied. Some items may have a shorter return window.
Return Methods
In-Store Returns
- Visit any Target store with your item and receipt
- Use the Target app Wallet barcode for receipt-free returns on eligible purchases
Drive Up Returns
Returns with Drive Up is available free of charge for purchases made through guests’ Target.com account, whether in-store, on the Target app, or on Target.com. Process:
- Start a return in the Target app
- Let the store know you’re coming
- Tell them when you arrive
- Complete the return without leaving your car
Mail Returns
- Available for Target.com purchases
- Large or heavy items may be eligible for return pickup
Special Items
Some large or heavy items, such as furniture and electronics, may be eligible for return pickup.
Holiday Return Policy
Extended return window for Electronics and Entertainment items, including AppleĀ® & Beats products and mobile phones (unlock/pre-paid), purchased between November 7āDecember 24. The return policy window begins December 26.
Refund Methods
Refunds will typically be issued in the same form as the original payment:
- Credit/debit cards: Refund to original card
- Cash purchases: Cash refund
- Target Gift Cards: Refund to new Target Gift Card
- Target Circle Card purchases: Credit to account
Exchange Policy
Most unopened items sold by Target in new condition and returned within 90 days will receive a refund or exchange. Exchanges are available for:
- Same item in different size/color (subject to availability)
- Different item of equal or lesser value
- Different item of greater value (customer pays difference)
Special Considerations
Electronics and Special Collections
Some items, including electronics and limited time offer collections, have their own return policies. Check the product details page for more information.
Fraud Prevention
Target reserves the right to deny returns, refunds, and exchanges including but not limited to prevent fraud, suspected fraud, or abuse.
Modified Return Policies
Some items may have specific return policies that differ from the standard policy. These will be noted:
- On the product details page
- On receipts or packing slips
- On Target policy boards in stores

- Target App: Use the Target app to start returns and track status
- In-Store: Visit Guest Services at any Target location
- Online: Access your Target.com account to initiate mail returns
- Drive Up: Use the Target app to schedule a Drive Up return
