Big Lots Return, Refund & Exchange Policy

General Return Policy

30-Day Return Window: Most items may be returned within 30 days of purchase or delivery date. Big Lots monitors return activity for abuse through the use of a third-party service and reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges at Big Lots in all instances. All returns are subject to validation and approval at Big Lots’ discretion.

Customer Satisfaction Guarantee: If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it within 30 days.

Return Requirements

Required Items for Return
  • Original packaging with the receipt, packing slip, or confirmation email with order number (Biglots.com orders)
  • The merchandise must be in its original condition, complete with accessories, packaging and instructions
  • All items in packaging, paperwork, parts, and accessories
Identification Requirements

Big Lots may ask you for a driver’s license or government ID to verify your identity.

In-Store Returns

In-Store Purchase Returns
  • Merchandise purchased in a Big Lots store can be returned to a store within 30 days of the date of purchase
  • Must be accompanied by a receipt
  • Items purchased in a Big Lots store cannot be returned by mail
Online Purchase Returns to Store
  • Bring the packing slip or order confirmation email, along with the items you wish to return in their original packaging and condition, to your Big Lots store
  • Merchandise returned in-store must be accompanied by the packing slip or the order confirmation email showing the order number

Return Options

You have the option to return your item(s) to a Big Lots store or by mail.

Return Process
  1. Log into your account and view your Order History
  2. Click on the order number for the item you want to return
  3. From your order details page, click “Return Item”, select the items you would like to return
  4. We will generate your return documents and provide instructions for sending back your package
Mail Return Requirements
  • Returns must be completed within 30 days after your item(s) have been delivered
  • The return must be made on or before the return by date listed on the packing slip
  • Merchandise returned by mail must be accompanied by the packing slip

BIG! Delivery Returns

If your item was delivered to you via BIG! Delivery, returns must be made within 30 days of receipt. Bring the item, along with all packaging, paperwork, parts and accessories to any Big Lots store.

If you do not wish to return an item delivered to you via BIG! Delivery to a Big Lots store, contact our Customer Care Support Center at 1-866-BIG-LOTS (244-5687) for assistance. Additional fees may be applied.

Refund Policy

Refund Method
  • In most cases, your refund will automatically go back to the original form of payment used for the purchase
  • Refunds will be issued in the same form of payment originally used for the purchase
No Receipt Returns
  • After 30 days, the refund will be issued in the form of a merchandise credit (gift card) valid for in-store use only
  • No receipt returns will be refunded less 20% of the current selling price and issued in the form of a merchandise credit (gift card) valid for in-store use only
Damaged or Defective Items

If you receive a damaged or defective item or an item different than what you ordered, return the item for a refund or exchange. Your shipping charges will be refunded.

Non-Refundable Fees

Shipping, delivery and handling fees may not be refundable.

Big Lots reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges at Big Lots in all instances.

Special Exchange Rules

Open airbeds cannot be returned. They can only be exchanged for a similar item.

A photo may be required to complete your return.

Special Restrictions

Lease-to-Own Items

Items acquired at Big Lots through lease-to-own transactions are not eligible for return or refund under Big Lots’ normal return policy. The return date printed on the receipt does not apply. For the return or refund of items acquired through lease-to-own transactions, please see your Leasing Agreement or contact Progressive Leasing at 877-898-1970.

Special Order Program

Additional restrictions apply when returning items purchased through Big Lots’ Special Order Program. Please see your Special Order Terms & Conditions for details.

Protection Plans

You can cancel your protection plan (purchased online or in-store) within the first 30 days for a full refund by visiting your local Big Lots store or contacting Big Lots customer service. After 30 days, you should contact Allstate directly at 877-971-0095 for a pro-rated refund.
